About me
The person behind the code.
I’m Rafał. I’ve been building software professionally for more than 15 years, but I first started programming back in 2005, while I was still in middle school. There was no career plan behind it then — I was simply curious and wanted to understand how things worked.
That curiosity never really went away. I’m still the kind of person who notices something inconvenient and starts wondering how it could work better. Astoria SQL Client started exactly like that — I wasn’t happy with the MySQL tools I was using, so I decided to build the one I wanted myself.
I also prefer staying with products for longer. I like understanding not only the code, but the product around it — why something exists, how people use it and what might become a problem later. Many of my client relationships have lasted for years, and that suits me much better than jumping between unrelated short assignments.
Outside work, the most important part of my life is my family — my wife Ola and our son Filip. We spend most of our free time together, usually out for walks, at playgrounds, indoor play centres or climbing through treetop obstacle courses. Our home also currently includes four adopted white mice — particularly fitting, since mysz means mouse in Polish and my surname is Myszyński.
When I need some time away from screens, cycling is my favourite way to get it, especially forest singletracks. I run too, and although the gym has mostly lost the competition for my time, I still like staying active.
